Oscar Pistorius the double-amputee Olympic runner who was found guilty of manslaughter in October 2014 will be released from prison this Friday to live under house arrest in his uncle’s mansion.

Pistorius murdered his girlfriend Reva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013 in his home.  He claimed that he thought she was an intruder when he shot the beautiful blonde model four times, killing her.  He confessed and was convicted of a lower charge of manslaughter (culpable homicide) rather than murder.  He was sentenced to five years but has been released after spending only 10 months in prison due to good behavior.

Prosecutors have filed papers with the South African Supreme Court of Appeal on Monday, August 17, 2015 in an effort to increase his conviction to murder.  A murder conviction would give Pistorius a minimum of 15 years in prison.  “A November hearing is scheduled, with Pistorius’ team having until Sept. 17 to file a response.”

“After his release, he will not have to wear an electronic monitoring device and will likely be allowed to leave the house for mandatory work and important family events, officials told The Guardian.
