Following the aftermath of Rudy Guede‘s sensational interview on Italian television show Storie Maledette (Cursed Stories), Raffaele Sollecito reacts as if he has been struck by lightning. The pony-tailed former prisoner announced in the press that he will seek payment for damages. This pronouncement was made even though Guede never explicitly stated Sollecito was there. Meantime Amanda Knox remains silent while her lawyer calls Rudy the “king of liars.”
Rudy Guede’s interview with Franca Leosini drew in approximately 1,500,000 viewers. The show was declared a ‘triumph‘ on social media as the audience tweeted thousands of comments during and after the show. In it Rudy Guede says that he is 101% certain that Amanda Knox was there and argued with Meredith Kercher just before she was stabbed to death. Guede also mentions a man with Knox but he never says that it was Raffaele Sollecito. Instead he read from the court documents which stated that Raffaele Sollecito was at the scene of the crime. Even though he was not directly accused by Guede, it didn’t stop Sollecito from announcing to the media through his lawyer, Giulia Bongiorno, to “launch action for damages” against Rudy Guede.
One may wonder why Sollecito is lobbing legal threats when Guede never said Sollecito was there? Could it be because of the multitude of Twitter messages describing Guede as more articulate and intelligent than Sollecito? Or perhaps it was the hundreds of messages of support for the only man condemned for the murder who also happens to be the only black suspect? Whatever the case may be, Sollecito is fired up by Rudy Guede’s firebolt broadcast.
Meanwhile, Amanda Knox’s lawyer, Luciano Ghirga, was said to be irritated by Rudy’s eloquent narrative. Avoiding Guede’s allegations about Knox directly, Ghirga stated, “We will assess the content of the interview in relation to the position of Amanda Knox.” Ghirga seemed concerned about public money being spent on the RAI3 show, “. . .it is the first case of a media review process done with half public and with public money.” This concern for whether or not public money was used to defend one of the suspects in this case is reminiscent of the time when journalist Andrea Vogt attempted to determine whether DNA specialist Greg Hampikian used the public’s funds at Boise State University to defend Knox.
Only time will tell whether or not Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Knox will take Rudy Guede to court. Meanwhile, Luciano Ghirga, the attorney for the only defendant to have a calunnia (aggravated slander) conviction finalized by the Italian Supreme court, incredulously called Guede the, “king of liars.” Amanda Knox has remained silent in the days following the television broadcast, ostensibly waiting (for compensation) to be heard.
