After Rudy Guede’s sensational interview on Italian TV show Storie Maledette (Cursed Stories), viewed by 1.5 million people, lawyers have offered to help.  It is being reported today that there has been an outpouring of support for Guede.  Lawyers have come forward and offered to work pro bono to help Guede get a retrial.

Rudy Guede is serving a 16-year sentence for being an accomplice to murdering Meredith Kercher, a British exchange student and former roommate of Amanda Knox.   Kercher was found stabbed to death on November 1, 2007 in Perugia, Italy.  Rudy was convicted of the murder and sexual assault in October 2008, while Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were acquitted last year.

Rudy Guede said, “I instructed to two colleges of lawyers and Roman Viterbo, who will follow my defense and for the specific needs and to evaluate the possibility of a retrial.”  After Guede’s interview aired many people have written him message of support on his new Twitter and Facebook pages.  “I want to thank – says Rudy Guede – all the lawyers these days are proposed to take my defense on a voluntary basis, as well as all the people who have expressed solidarity ‘to me. I’m touched.”

His interview, which has been translated into English by volunteer Eric Paroissien, has been published online.
