As of recording this episode, the filing of candidacies for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections has concluded, which means it is election season all over again in the Philippines. With that being said, throughout the course of our country’s history various political events that have led to violence and killings have occurred.One of the most infamous incidents that changed the course of our country’s political landscape is The Plaza Miranda Bombing in 1971.The Plaza Miranda Bombing, at the time, was viewed as one of the most infamous tragedies that happened during a political event. On the evening of August 21, 1971, the Liberal Party, which was the opposition party against former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s Nacionalista Party, was holding a political rally at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila. As the rally was in full swing, two grenades were thrown onto the stage where the Liberal Party leaders were gathered. The explosions caused chaos and devastation, resulting in nine deaths and injuring 95 others.
