"Murderous Deeds." of Joseph Oberhansley. THE Cannibal killer who used jigsaw on ex-girlfriend's skull. Joseph Oberhansley walked into a Utah prison , a bullet lodged in his brain, and chose two words to tattoo across his back: "murderous deeds." Fifteen years before his confession to eating parts of Tammy Jo Blanton, Oberhansley gunned down his 17-year-old girlfriend in a meth-fuelled jealous rage. He shot his own mother in the back, fired at his sister, then tucked his gun under his chin and pulled the trigger. Oberhansley admitted he killed Tammy, according to court records. He said he stabbed her in the head, neck, and body. Then he cut her open with an electric saw and removed part of her brain and ate it raw, then cooked and ate another section. He cut out her heart and ate that too, along with part of a lung, he said. A psychiatrist would write he'd given himself a "partial lobotomy." Oberhansley, 33, once told a parole board he believed the bullet in his brain calmed him. Some in his own family said it made him a monster, and relatives warned in Utah that he should be kept locked away. But set free on parole, Oberhansley arrived in Southern Indiana in July 2012. Within two years, he would be arrested twice. Still, his parole was never revoked, and he walked out of jail both times despite his previous manslaughter conviction. Brooke Adams, spokeswoman for the Utah Department of Corrections, said Indiana never told Utah charges had been filed. And Harrison said neither the prosecutor's office nor Oberhansley notified his Indiana parole officer. "It's a horrific situation," Harrison said. "But at the same time, I don't believe parole officers in either state could have prevented this." Oberhansley's parole expired in July of this year. Even if he had been revoked, Utah would have had to turn him lose by July 23, no matter what he'd done. Oberhansley had been a sweet kid with kind eyes, said his cousin, Misty Morgan, of Utah, who is 10 years older and watched him grow up. She said she never heard him so much as swear. But he grew dark as a teen, she said. Oberhansley's half-brother committed suicide and his father died of a suspicious overdose. Oberhansley spiraled into drug addiction. He was quick to anger, she said. "The person he is now, I don't know him," Morgan said. "He's a monster."
