The Amityville House is one of the most easily recognised images in the world of horror. It is the scene of a horrific mass murder in 1974, where Ronnie DeFeo Jr. brutally shot his whole family while they slept. It was later the scene of the famous haunting of the Lutz family (which this episode focuses on) and their 28 day stint in the murder house.In 1977, the stories of the Lutz family residence on 112 Ocean Avenue were published in the best selling novel The Amityville Horror by Jay Ansen.
