On January 25, 1959, a group of 10 Russian students, all experienced hikers, would head to Mount Otorten in the northern Ural Mountains of Russia for a 16 day exploration.The trip had been organized by the hiking team of the Ural Polytechnic Institute and they were sent out on an approved route. 1 hiker would return early due to illness, but the other 9 would continue on their voyage.
