Season 2 Episode 9: There is nature. There is nurture. And there is evil. Pure and unadulterated evil. In December of 1972 in the sweet town of Merced, CA, a gentleman was traveling on foot asking for donations to his church with pamphlets in hand. Seven year old Steven Stayner was walking home from school and was asked for his own donation. After some hesitation, little Steven agreed that his mother would likely be happy to contribute. But the man on foot had a friend...in a Pontiac. Steven was talked into taking a ride home with them. After all, it was a blustery winter day. Steven didn't return home until seven years later. This is where you want to hear of a happy homecoming and joy for all. Unfortunately, his return was anything but. The next few years of Steven's life proved to be nearly as tragic as his time in captivity. Regardless, however, Steven was able to become a local legend, and an unquestionable hero, in the process. But how far does the pendulum swing when looking at the hard wiring of siblings within the same family? Steven took everything that was horrific in his life, and used it for good. But what about his brother? And what about the four murdered women in and around Yosemite? You won't believe it. This case is a tough one, but it also shows us that limitless tragedies can exist, two brothers can be fully opposite in quite the biggest ways, and we absolutely never know what's going on behind closed doors.
