But no more so than the condition of her corpse, mutilated, when found lying in two parts. The Glasgow smile, missing skin, and bisected body would fuel the nightmares of journalists and first responders for years. In 1940's Hollywood, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, and Bette Davis were headliners. But one young woman from Massachusetts was making her way. Elizabeth "Beth" Short was a young woman with family on each side of country. A lung condition forced her to seek warm air and to remove herself from the harsh climate of the northeast winters. After a prolonged estrangement from her father, Elizabeth set out to once again experience the west coast and establish her identity. But a string of failed relationships and one hardship after another left her often seeking a warm meal and shelter where it could be found. Unfortunately, her life was cut short when she fell into the company of a still unknown suspect. Her blood was drained, empty concrete bags were littered, and multiple taunting letters sent to the LAPD - yet this case remains officially unsolved.
