In September 1978, a 15-year-old girl was hitchhiking home from her grandpa's house in Berkeley, California when an older man in a blue van offered her a ride. She was traveling with a few other young hitchhikers but even though the van was empty, the man said he only had room for one. Mary was exhausted and ready to be home so she climbed in and soon fell asleep. When she woke up, she realized they were headed the wrong direction. What happened next was something out of a nightmare.
