From the downtown district, police were dispatched to a disturbance Saturday evening. Officers allege two individuals were involved in a physical altercation at a public park. Both parties sustained minor injuries; no arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.On Sunday, in the Southeast neighborhood near the intersection of Airport Road and Chelton Road, officers responded to reports of shots fired shortly before midnight. No injuries were reported, but shell casings were found on scene. The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying any persons seen leaving the area around that time.Late Monday night in the Northeast corridor, officers took a report of alleged vehicle theft from the parking lot of a shopping plaza. The owner stated the vehicle was last seen at 6:30 p.m.; no suspect was observed, and the case is being actively investigated.Tuesday morning, at a commercial area in the Westside, a break-in was called in before sunrise. Officers found evidence of forced entry at a retail business. Merchandise was reported stolen, and security footage is under review. The case is open and investigators urge anyone with information to come forward.Continuing Tuesday, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported an inmate death at the county jail. A 33-year-old female was found unresponsive in her cell during morning rounds. The incident occurred around 5:38 a.m. and remains under internal investigation. According to the sheriff’s office, there is no indication of foul play at this time.Wednesday afternoon in the Old Colorado City district, Colorado Springs Police responded to reports of an alleged purse snatching near Colorado Avenue. The suspect fled on foot northbound on 26th Street. No injuries were reported. Police describe the suspect as a male, approximately 5-foot-11, wearing a black hoodie and red sneakers. Anyone with information about this individual is asked to contact local police.Later Wednesday, a fraudulent check incident was reported by staff at a financial institution in the Northgate area. Police state a suspect allegedly attempted to cash a counterfeit check using false identification. The suspect fled prior to officer arrival. Investigation is continuing.Thursday, downtown near Cascade Avenue, a disorderly conduct arrest was made following multiple complaints of alleged aggressive panhandling and threats to passersby. The adult male was detained without incident.In the early morning hours Friday, officers responded to a disturbance near Academy Boulevard and Galley Road. Upon arrival, police investigated an alleged assault. One subject was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; no arrests have been made and the case remains open.As the week came to a close, patrol units in the Southwest reported a suspected arson at a vacant lot just after midnight Friday night. Firefighters extinguished a small blaze believed to be intentionally set. No structures were damaged. Fire investigators are seeking tips from the public.Over the past week, there has been a noticeable increase in property crimes including theft of or from vehicles, especially in retail and residential parking areas. The police department continues to encourage listeners to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
