The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Arturo Velasquez, was listed as armed and dangerous. Deputies canvassed the area and, after receiving a second camera alert near Maxwell Street and Highway 85 around 11:45 a.m., a Fountain Police unit located the vehicle and began surveillance. Sheriffâs deputies attempted a tactical intervention at a gas station at Highway 85 and Glenarm Road, but the suspect intentionally reversed into an FPD unit and attempted to flee, colliding with an El Paso County Sheriff's vehicle. Velasquez and 34-year-old Ariana Valverde were both taken into custody; deputies recovered approximately 32.4 grams of methamphetamine. Velasquez was charged with motor vehicle theft, attempted second-degree assault on a peace officer, attempted felony eluding, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and criminal mischief. Valverde faces charges of motor vehicle theft, driving under the influence of drugs, and resisting arrest. Both remain held in jail and investigators are not currently seeking additional suspects.On Sunday, September 7, a man was arrested by the Colorado Springs Police Department following a reported disturbance at a gas station. After allegedly pulling a woman into a nearby residence and firing a gun, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Police advise that the suspect is currently in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
