Police report that a 60-year-old male, Phil Archuleta, called authorities late Sunday night, stating he had shot his common-law wife of 20 years inside their shared apartment. According to the arrest affidavit, Archuleta claimed he acted out of fear they would become homeless. The shooting is alleged to have taken place around 9:30 a.m. on July 5. Police arrested Archuleta at a nearby bus stop without incident. He now faces a first-degree murder charge. The investigation is ongoing, and the case number has not been released at this time.
