An alleged careless driving fatality occurred near East Iliff Avenue and Cherry Creek Spillway Crossing last Saturday morning, according to recent updates from Aurora Police. A 19-year-old driver has been charged following the collision that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old using an electric scooter. Investigators state the child was in a marked crosswalk at the time; the driver reportedly failed to stop at a red light. Police say the driver remained on scene and is cooperating as formal charges are pending. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out, but distracted driving is still under review.Later that day, just after midnight, a man was seriously injured by gunfire in a south-Aurora apartment parking lot near the Cherry Ridge complex along South Peoria Street. The victim reported being shot in his car after a brief verbal exchange with unknown individuals. He could not provide a suspect description. The case is currently under investigation. Aurora police encourage anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.On Sunday evening, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred on northbound I-225 just south of the Alameda Exit. The Aurora Police Department responded to the scene at about 6 p.m., confirming one person died in the incident. The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
