Aurora Police report that on August 30 near the intersection of East Sixth Avenue and Billings Street a police-involved shooting occurred following an attempted traffic stop for alleged speeding or driving under the influence. Video evidence shows the suspect, Rajon Belt-Stubblefield, failed to stop, then crashed into two vehicles in the intersection. Body camera and civilian video captured the officer approaching with a gun drawn and issuing repeated commands for Belt-Stubblefield to stay in his car and put his hands in the air. Belt-Stubblefield exited the vehicle, disregarded commands, and a physical altercation ensued. During the struggle, Belt-Stubblefield allegedly tossed a firearm into the grass and continued to confront the officer before being shot. Emergency aid was offered within two minutes. The officer's name has not been released. The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is actively investigating the shooting, and Aurora Police have launched an internal administrative review.
