Nursing Student Brutalized and her Killer.. FLED THE COUNTRY
On the morning of March 8, 2018, 22-year-old Haley Anderson, a nursing student at Binghamton University and beloved daughter and sister from Westbury, New York, disappeared. She had recently ended an offâandâon relationship with fellow nursing student Orlando Tercero, who had previously been suspected of slashing her tires during their tumultuous breakup.Security footage confirmed Haley and Orlando entered his apartment early that morning. Later that day, he fled the country, boarding a flight to Nicaragua. Concerned friends eventually broke into the residence and discovered Haleyâs body in his bedâwith bruising and ligature marks indicating she had been manually strangled and possibly asphyxiated by her necklace.After an international manhunt, Tercero was arrested in Nicaragua on March 13. Extradition was blocked due to dual citizenship, so he was tried there. In November 2019, he was convicted of femicide and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
