We’re starting our next true crime theme: female killer nurses. Between 2007 and 2016, Ontario nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer killed eight elderly patients and tried to kill or harm six more, administering insulin overdoses to those with dementia to relieve the “red surge” of pressure she felt in her chest. Elizabeth had a habit of stealing and using medication on the job and had been fired twice before. So, when her crimes came out, lawsuits were filed and an inquiry was launched as the public grappled with how this abuse of power was allowed to go on for almost a decade.Sources:https://www.bbc.com/news/world-48600478 https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/elizabeth-wettlaufer-case https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7571648/ https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2017/07/the-killer-nurse.html https://www.healthline.com/health/stress/amygdala-hijack https://globalnews.ca/news/5707936/elizabeth-wettlaufer-inquiry-confession/ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44377735 https://meridian.allenpress.com/jmr/article/107/3/19/473928/Exploring-Health-Professional-Criminality-and https://www.dea.gov/factsheets/benzodiazepines#:~:text=Benzodiazepines%20are%20depressants%20that%20produce,Ativan%C2%AE%2C%20and%20Klonopin%C2%AE. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/killer-nurse-wettlaufer-sentencing-1.4175164 https://www.cbc.ca/news2/interactives/sh/TBk79oWhpi/elizabeth-wettlaufer-nurse-senior-deaths/ https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/borderline-personality-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20370237 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/woodstock-ontario-elizabeth-wettlaufer-public-inquiry-report-1.5230181 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/elizabeth-wettlaufer-family-friends-inquiry-report-1.5232442 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/long-term-care-inquiry-elizabeth-wettlaufer-what-could-have-stopped-you-1.4776403 https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/nov/22/study-identified-key-traits-serial-killer-nurses https://www.upgrad.com/study-abroad/knowledge-base/faqs/study-in-canada/what-is
