The three-story home, constructed between 1812 and 1818 and initially given the name "Federal Hill" by Judge John Rowan, became Kentucky's first historic shrine on July 4th, 1923. The Rowan family had lived in the mansion and farm in Nelson County, close to Bardstown, for three generations spanning 120 years.
